Pañolon
Pañolon (panyolon in Tagalog orthography) is a Philippine pastry that you’ll likely come across only at Hizon’s Bakeshop in the Ermita district of Manila.
It looks like a very thick napkin that’s folded up or rolled around a thick filling.
The name is the Spanish word for “shawl.”
El pañuelo de Manila / El pañolon de Manila / El mantón de Manila was a type of large Chinese-influenced shawl that was available for trading at the port of Manila during the Spanish colonial period and in the decades immediately after.
