Maruya is a type of fritter that’s enjoyed by Filipino as a snack. The most commonly used main ingredient is saba, the fat banana variety that’s widely used for cooking in the Philippines.
To make Maruyang Saging, simply fry thin banana pieces in oil in a large wok. After draining, loosely coat with sugar. Alternatively, you can coat the banana slices in a batter of flour, milk and water before frying.
There are also other types of maruya such as Maruyang Kamote (sweet potato), Maruyang Parirutong, and Maruyang Kalabasa (squash).
