Egg Cracklets (Galletas)
A favorite snack of Filipinos the world over, egg cracklets or galletas (galyetas) are “crackers” with a distinctive shape — they’re not flat; the four ends of the square curve noticeably upwards, supposedly in homage to how square coconut pieces curl up when exposed to fire.
One of the more known brands of egg cracklets is La Pacita. Here are the ingredients listed on a pack of La Pacita Egg Cracklets: enriched wheat flour (nicotinic acid, iron content), eggs, cane sugar, hydrogenated coconut and palm oil, iodized salt, ammonium bicarbonate, sodium bicarbonate, FD&C Yellow No. 5, FD&C Yellow No. 6.
Product of the Philippines!
Nutritional info: A serving of five cracklets is about 120 calories. Zero trans fat.
Another brand of galletas is Dealo Fiesta Biskuit, which also makes apas, camachile, chabelita, estrellitas, pan tostado (butter toasted bread), Romano sugar cookies, rosquillos, twists, and broas.
