The conventional Filipino chicharon is deep-fried pork rinds.
In recent years, different parts of chickens and pigs have been given the chicharon treatment, and one of the more popular variation is called chicharon bulaklak.
Bulaklak is the Tagalog word for flower.
The part used is pork intestine railings, which are thoroughly cleaned, blanched and cooked.
Chicharong bulaklak is now facetiously shortened to chilak.
