The Davao region of Mindanao exports tons of cacao to Switzerland’s Barry Callebaut, the world’s largest supplier of high-quality chocolate and cacao products.
A tree crop that has been grown in the Philippines since the 17th century, cacao is the raw material for many cocoa items like butter, powder, chocolate candy, and liqueurs.
The country is expected to save the world from the great chocolate shortage that is due by the year 2020.
